Born in 1937, Howie Dixon hitched hiked from Charleston, SC to New York City in the early 1950s. He began playing softball in Central Park in the 1960s, and saw a lot of players come and go. On the field, he was known for his speed and behind the plate chatter, but those who knew him off the field could admire him as a philosopher. He was a big source of inspiration to many. Howie passed away on Friday, 8/13/10. You are greatly missed, Howie!
